The 5 acres palm oil plantation project was successfully achieved. This is why we have decided to expand the palm grove of about 3 more acres. This will not only allow us to pay the expenses for the palm grove’s management, but also to generate some benefit for our association.

Objective:

Expand the palm grove from about 5 acres to about 8 acres. The revenue from the oil sale will not only cover the expenses for the management of the plantation, but will also allow us to consider and invest in new projects.

Provide a few extra jobs which is something positive in a country where unemployment is higher than 70%.

Context:

People are constantly urged for financial help, whether it is by big governmental associations or not, or by small independent local associations. Therefore, it becomes today more and more difficult to find necessary funds for the development of new projects.

Realization:

In order to be able to continue to support unprivileged children / youngster and provide scholarships and training, our association has decided to start a palm grove of about 5 acres in Cameroon. The palm grove will produce palm oil and the “supposedly” revenue will help our association to cover management charges for a beginning. If the project meets our expectation, we will add a few more acres to the palm grove in the future.

Palm oil is generally used for cooking in Central Africa and within 3 years, we will have a regular revenue form the oil sale.

Advantages of the project:

This project has given punctual jobs opportunities which is good in a country where unemployment is has high as 70%.

The Palm grove will bring regular revenue to the association with the oil sale

It will give us the possibility to invest in new projects in concordance with the aim of the association.

Cameroon’s students from the Swiss Italian University (CEC-USI) are planning to organize “a Football (Soccer) Summer.” The project will lead to the organization of football (soccer) tournaments during the summer holidays, in areas of high poverty in Cameroon.

Football (Soccer) is one of the few, if not the only sports in the country that has the necessary infrastructure. The CEC-USI will choose a city or village in Cameroon where mini football (soccer) championships will be organized in the area.

The equipment and the travel costs of the players will be sponsored by the organizers. Your contribution, however, can make a difference as it will enable more children to take part in the event and share the magic time of the meeting.

Life is not always easy in the current economical context, especially in developing countries. Because of a lack of job security, more and more children leave their families to live on the street. To survive, “street children” do numerous small jobs, such as street hawker, car washer, shoeshine boy, all in difficult working conditions. They manage with what they earn and are often creative in finding resources. Unfortunately, many of them are easily persuaded to join gangs who use them.

Education without Borders, in cooperation with associations already in place, plans to set up a support project to help some of these children. They would like to create educational spaces for integration which will allow for a personal follow up of children. Children must not only be considered in their needs, but also in their capacities. A particular emphasis on listening will be the base of a reliable link between the child and the educator.

In our society, computer skills are becoming more and more important. Nowadays most people use computers everyday for work or pleasure. They are a part of our life therefore it is hard for most of us to imagine that in some parts of the world, people do not have access to computers and might not even know how to use one.

The goal for the “Computer classes in Yaounde” project was to reach people who did not have access to a computer or who simply could not afford one by creating computer classes that would teach basic computer skills.

In order to do this, unused computers were collected, as well as printers, among relatives and friends and were sent to Cameroon. Shipment of the material was sponsored by an organization affiliated with the department of international security.

Once all the equipment arrived in Cameroon, our local representative found a location to set up the computers and printers where we would start the computer classes. The opening day for the computer class was in September 2005.

We now provide three-month computer classes. During those three months, students have a short introduction to basic computer skills and learn how to use Windows, Word and Excel. The computer classes are provided free of charge for the majority of the students, and are offered for a small fee for other students who have the means to pay.

In the future we hope to open new computer classes that would teach PC hardware maintenance and PC installation.
